Sensirion Connected Solutions and TotalEnergies scale continuous methane monitoring
Thousands of sensors. Hundreds of sites. What does continuous methane monitoring look like at this scale?

Deployment at scale and contribution to methane targets
Sensirion Connected Solutions and TotalEnergies are collaborating to deploy continuous methane monitoring using the Nubo Sphere solution across operated assets in the US (Barnett shale) and Argentina (Neuquén and Tierra del Fuego). Several thousand nodes have been successfully installed across hundreds of sites, supporting TotalEnergies’ objective to equip all operated upstream assets with permanent (continuous) methane detection by the end of 2025. The deployment contributes to TotalEnergies’ targets of reducing methane emissions by 80% by 2030 (vs. 2020), maintaining methane intensity below 0.1%, and progressing toward near-zero methane emissions by 2030.
Operational integration and use
The system is integrated into routine operations, with operations and HSE teams using the data from Nubo Sphere for detection, prioritization, and repair of emission events. Continuous measurements — including quantified emissions, timestamps, and source differentiation — are embedded into site integrity management, LDAR planning, and operations workflows. The Nubo Sphere solution has been deployed at scale with demonstrated ease of use in both installation and operation, supporting efficient field execution and compliance.
Collaboration and ongoing development
Successful deployments have been carried out in coordination across corporate and local departments and stakeholders, enabling adaptation to operational constraints and alignment with existing workflows. Ongoing collaboration has supported iterative improvements, including updates to analytics (Nubo Sphere Algorithm 2.0) to enhance detection robustness and quantification accuracy, as well as preparation for integration with SCADA and corporate data platforms. Leveraging its technological leadership and innovation capabilities, Sensirion Connected Solutions’ focus going forward is to support the global supermajor in extending monitoring coverage as well as strengthening data integration and operational intelligence.
“This collaboration shows what continuous methane monitoring looks like when it is truly operationalized at scale. Sensirion Connected Solutions supports TotalEnergies today in deploying continuous monitoring in the US and Argentina and embedding methane insights into routine operations — so teams can detect, prioritize, and repair emission events faster. This is where real methane reduction happens, and we’re proud to contribute to that progress,” said Felix Hoehne, General Manager at Sensirion Connected Solutions.
